Playcalling Syntax
The structure for calling plays is as follows:
Formation + Shift + Play + Motion + Blocking Scheme + Player Tags
Run Plays
Run Plays: The first digit in the play designates the ball carrier:
- 1: QB run.
- 2: R-back run.
- 3: H-back run.
The second digit specifies the gap:
- 1-8: Hole the ball is ran to(e.g., 12 = QB run to the 2-hole).
Pass Plays
The numbers always read from outside in:
- For example, in a "179" play, the outside receiver runs a Whip (1), the middle receiver runs a Corner (7), and the inner-most receiver runs a Go (9).
- If there are two receivers on each side of the field, and the play is an "87", then the outside receivers run a Post (8), and the inside receivers run a Corner (7).
Movement Plays
Word-based tags (e.g., "Sprite 531" or "Slay 541") indicate QB movement:
- Sprite: Specifies the QB rolls to the right.
- Slay: Specifies the QB rolls to the left.
